Wildife resource officials gave high marks to a baby peregrine falcon's first effort to fly from the different perches on the Hotel Utah on Thursday. The falcon, named "Precocious," began its flight at 7 a.m. and flew to a perch near the front of the hotel and then back to another ledge.

A later attempt to fly to the LDS Church Office Building was awkward and the bird failed to find a landing place.

The flight of the young bird was carefully observed by teams of biologist and volunteers stationed at the Hotel Utah for several days. They are on hand in case the bird falls or lands on a busy street.

The second baby peregrine, "Rebel," has not attempted flight.
