A U.S. Marine helicopter crashed on a fog-covered mountain within 1 mile of a nuclear power plant in southern Japan Saturday, killing at least five of the seven people aboard, police said.

"We found the crashed helicopter and four bodies of foreigners at about 11:17 a.m. 1 kilometer (half-mile) east of the Ikata nuclear power plant," said police on the southern island of Shikoku.Police later confirmed a fifth body had been found.

The Kyodo news agency identified the helicopter as a CH-53 that left the Iwakuni U.S. Marine Corp Air Station, 25 miles west of Hiroshima, at 9:54 a.m. Saturday for Okinawa.
