National Organization for Women President Molly Yard Friday said it is time for direct action in getting the Equal Rights Amendment passed.
At a news conference opening NOW's national conference, Yard said the emphasis of the three-day meeting will be on the ERA."We aren't going to beg any more from the white men of the legislature" in the drive for constitutionally protected rights for women, Yard said of the resubmission of the ERA to Congress next year.
Yard said the NOW Women's Caucus will be at the Democratic convention trying to put more women's issues into the party platform.
One priority will be urging Democratic leaders to name a woman running mate for Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who is assured of receiving the party's presidential nomination, Yard said.
