American Stores, which recently acquired the Dublin, Calif.-based Lucky Stores, says 37 Alpha Beta and Lucky stores will be divested from the merged company in accordance with a proposed Federal Trade Commission consent order.

Salt Lake-based American Stores said an agreement in principle has been reached with Certified Grocers, Los Angeles, for the sale of 15 of the 37 stores. The remaining 22 stores will be sold in a bid process currently under way.

The stores to be sold to Certified Grocers are in Hayward, Union City, Fremont, San Jose, Novato, San Rafael, Petaluma, Newhall, Saugus, Fallbrook, Point Loma, La Mesa and Santee, Calif.
