The Utah State Bar, meeting this week in San Diego, has inducted Kent M. Kasting as its new president.

Kasting, a partner in the Salt Lake law firm of Dart, Adamson & Kasting, was elected by members of the bar, which represents nearly 5,000 attorneys.The new president received his juris doctor degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1973. He was elected to the Bar Commission in 1983.

He served as president of the Salt Lake County Bar in 1981. In 1984, he was named Outstanding Young lawyer of the Year by the Young Lawyers Section of the Utah State Bar.

Hans Q. Chamberlain, the senior member of the Cedar City law firm of Chamberlain & Higbee, was inducted as president-elect.

Chamberlain attended Southern Utah State College and received his law degree from the U. College of Law. He served as Iron County attorney from 1970 to 1978.

The bar's 58th annual meeting is being held in San Diego's Del Coronado Hotel, with nearly 350 attorneys in attendance.
