Treasure hunters killed a 4-year-old boy in central India because they believed that by sacrificing the child they would find hidden loot, the United News of India reported Friday.
The news agency said the boy disappeared from his home last Saturday in the village of Panchampur Sarseni.
UNI quoted police as saying the boy was lured by a neighbor to a hidden site where a treasure was believed buried. He was killed at the site, but no treasure was found.
The boy's body was later found on the outskirts of the village, the news agency said.
Three villagers have been arrested in connection with the case, UNI said.
