The earliest an advance team of Soviet inspectors is expected to arrive in the Salt Lake Valley is Thursday, a U.S. official said Tuesday morning.

Kendall Pease, spokesman for the U.S. On-Site Inspection Agency, said the Soviets have reconfirmed their interest in sending a smaller group of inspectors to Utah to pave the way for the rest of the 30-member contingent, which will arrive on or about July 1 to verify American compliance with the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty.Necessary paperwork to facilitate the arrival of the advance Soviet team, however, still hasn't been processed - and for that matter, hasn't even been requested through formal channels, Pease said.

Upon their arrival, the Soviets will be booked temporarily into a local hotel until they're joined by the full inspection team. They'll then be moved to the Sun Arbor Apartment on North Temple in West Valley City until permanent quarters can be built.
