France has exploded another nuclear device at Mururoa Atoll in French Polynesia, the New Zealand Foreign Affairs Ministry said Tuesday.

Although the explosion was recorded by New Zealand's seismological station at Rarotonga in the Cook Islands Friday, it was not revealed by the government until Tuesday.

Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control Russell Marshall said the continued testing by France in the South Pacific was "totally reprehensible."

He said it was estimated the blast at Mururoa Atoll was equivalent to 5,000 tons of TNT.
