First, Madonna found trouble with the Benedictine Sisters over an Internet domain name she snared that they wanted. Now, Cher has riled the Sisters of Mercy with a song named after the order that refers to the nuns as "masters of pain," "mothers of shame," "twisters of truth" and "daughters of war."
Cher, 54, says the ditty off her CD Not.Com.mercial refers to when her mother was forced to temporarily put her into a Catholic orphanage. "This is not a condemnation of the Catholic Church."
But Catholic League spokesman Patrick Scully said, "Cher is trying to sell her CD on the back of Catholics. It's reprehensible."
