First, Madonna found trouble with the Benedictine Sisters over an Internet domain name she snared that they wanted. Now, Cher has riled the Sisters of Mercy with a song named after the order that refers to the nuns as "masters of pain," "mothers of shame," "twisters of truth" and "daughters of war."

Cher, 54, says the ditty — off her CD Not.Com.mercial — refers to when her mother was forced to temporarily put her into a Catholic orphanage. "This is not a condemnation of the Catholic Church."

But Catholic League spokesman Patrick Scully said, "Cher is trying to sell her CD on the back of Catholics. It's reprehensible."
