Rotary International spokesman Walter Maddocks has thanked leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a donation that will benefit his organization's Polio Plus program.

The LDS Church donated $250,000 - the equivalent of 1,280,000 polio vaccinations - to the Rotary International program. The money will be used to immunize African children against the dreaded disease.Maddocks met with several church officials, include President Ezra Taft Benson and his second counselor, President Thomas S. Monson, to thank them for the gift.

Maddocks said the church has earmarked $100,000 for immunizations in Kenya and $60,000 for the the same purpose in the Ivory Coast. Each dollar buys eight vaccinations.
