Memo to Thiokol, Hercules and NASA personnel: Cub Scout Pack 3533 is on the rise! The Great Salt Lake Council pack held its second annual Rocket Launching Derby on Saturday. Judging from the way some 25 enthusiastic youngsters handled themselves, the space industry should be in good hands in coming years. More than 30 rockets, including a standard missile known as Liberty, and the Atlantis _ a replica of the space shuttle _ were launched at Indian Hills Middle School in the Sandy area. The Atlantis rose about 1,000 feet, coasting for about 5 seconds before a parachute returned the reusable orbiter to the ground. The derby featured various strength solid-rocket engines, which were ignited when youngsters pressed the launch button at countdown. The solid rocket engines took some of the spacecraft as high as 2,000 feet.
