Former University of Utah professor Neils Peter Neilson, 92, died June 16, 1988, in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Neilson is the former head of the University of Utah department of health, physical education and rec-reation. He received several honors for his work, including the nationally prestigious Luther H. Gulick Award of the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Rec-reation.He was one of 12 founders of the American College of Sports Medicine, author of several books and a visiting professor at 12 institutions. He wrote five textbooks of national prominence.
Dr. Neilson received his doctorate from Stanford University. He was head of the University of Utah physical education department for over 20 years.
Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. June 20 at 2350 E. Thirteenth South. Friends may call one hour before services. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Logan City Cemetery.
Contributions can be made to a scholarship fund established in his name at the U. in 1984 for graduate students in the College of Health Sciences.
