Three names were submitted Friday as candidates for interim Davis County Clerk, to serve until a new clerk is picked by voters in the November general election.
The Davis County Republican Central Committee Thursday night interviewed candidates and submitted the names of Glen Saunders, Margene Isom, and Lois Pickett. Jan Ukena, who had also expressed interest in the job, was not included. The county clerk's job became open in May when incumbent clerk Michael Allphin was selected as state district court administrator.
Saunders is an incumbent Davis County commissioner who announced he is withdrawing from the commission race and, in addition to possibly being named interim clerk, is also running for the job in the fall election. Isom has also filed to run for the job in the fall.
Pickett being included on the list came as somewhat of a surprise, as she had not previously announced her interest in the job. A long-time GOP party worker, her family owns and operates Servus Drug on Main Street in Bountiful.
Selection of one of the three nominees is expected by next week.
Saunders has announced he will not participate in the selection process as a commissioner, leaving it up to fellow commissioners Harold Tippetts and William Peters to make the final selection.
If Saunders is named interim clerk, he will resign his commission seat. That will start a new selection process, with the Republican Central Committee again meeting to select one of three nominees to serve as commissioner until the fall elections.
