A year ago heading into the 1A boys basketball state tournament, Panguitch was the overwhelming favorite and it backed it up with four double digit victories en route to the title.

A year later, theres no such inevitability. Panguitch is still very much one of the teams to beat after winning 20 games, but Bryce Valley beat the Bobcats in the Region 20 Tournament championship game two weeks ago and is more than capable of doing it again on the big stage of the state tournament if the teams meet again.

Rich owns the No. 1 ranking in the Deseret News heading into the state tournament with a senior-laden squad that went 8-0 in Region 22 and 18-4 overall.

Manila played Rich tough in both region meetings, and despite losing those two games it still won 19 games during the regular season and could be a factor at state.

Several other squads are capable of making some noise at this years state tournament, which tips off Wednesday with the first round at Richfield High School. The remaining three rounds are at the Sevier Valley Center.

In alphabetical order, these are the teams that have qualified for the 1A boys state basketball and what to expect over the next week of playoff basketball.
