Karl Malone carried the Utah Jazz on his back with a season-high 42 points and 18 rebounds in a 94-91 win against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Malone, who was named NBA player of the week after this performance, had 16 points in the fourth quarter. The Jazz only had 24 as a team. John Stockton was absent due to injury.

Utah beat the Clippers in a playoff sweep the previous season, but Los Angeles became the second team in the NBA to lose 14 games with the loss.
