BYU matched its win total from the previous year and snapped a 21-game losing streak with a 73-59 victory over San Diego State at newly christened Cox Arena.

"It was a big one," said BYU coach Steve Cleveland. "We want to set the tone of winning as quick as possible. It was satisfying to come on the road and execute in a hostile environment."

Cougar center Jarkko Ahlbom wrecked his knee in last years opener, but he had 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
