Offensive coordinator Ty Detmer looks on during warmups as BYU and USU prepare to play at Maverik Stadium in Logan Utah on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017.

PROVO — BYU offensive coordinator Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 as a Cougar quarterback. This year, in his current role, things have been rough but he’s resilient.

“If you’ve been around athletics, whether coaching or playing, you’ve had these types of situations come up,” Detmer said. “It doesn’t always go your way. We’ve had some crazy bounces this year, too. Sometimes you don’t get those. Sometimes it seems like they pile up in clusters, which is kind of happening for us now.

"For me, as long as (coach Kalani Sitake is) happy and knows the situation we’re in and what we’re doing and feels comfortable with that, that’s all that matters to me. I’ve got to report to him and if he feels good and is comfortable with what we’re doing and knows the situation we’re in, I’m good. We’ll keep working and keep battling. At some point it will turn and we’ll end up being a pretty good football team. We’re going through some struggles right now but we’ll work through them.”
