Now that training camp is over, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham noted that the Utes will switch to in-season mode beginning Monday when classes begin. The players will report for meetings at 2:05 p.m., and then practice. Whittingham said members of the team will treat this week as if they had a game on Thursday — just like the following week when the season opens Aug. 31 against North Dakota.
“The first time through is like a trial run and the second time through is the real game prep,” he explained.
QB DECISION: Senior quarterback Troy Williams, who was elected to be a team captain for the second straight season, said he’s embraced the leadership role and is trying to be more vocal.
“I just try to come out here, work hard every day and just continue to be an example,” Williams said.
Utah is expected to reveal its pecking order at quarterback on Monday. Williams, sophomore Tyler Huntley and Alabama transfer Cooper Bateman are vying for position on the depth chart.
“It’s been a long camp, been competing hard, so hopefully things work out in my favor,” Williams said.
