SALT LAKE CITY — A couple of early BYU miscues paved the way for the Utah softball to clinch the Salt Lake City regional championship and advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. From the beginning it was a complete game performance for the Utes in a 14-0 victory over the Cougars.

Junior Miranda Viramontes hurled a shutout with two strikeouts and five hits allowed to lead the Utes to the Regional clinching win over the Cougars.

Already with a six-run lead going into the sixth inning, the Utes scored eight runs in that inning alone to trigger the mercy rule.
