LAS VEGAS — The Utah Runnin' Utes likely needed to win the Pac-12 Tournament in order to go to the NCAA Tournament.

Unfortunately for the Utes, that dream ended early in a 78-75 loss to the Cal Golden Bears in the second round of the tournament on Thursday. Down by double digits in the second half, Utah charged back and had a chance to tie with five seconds left, but a Sedrick Barefield attempt was short and got blocked.

• Utah was more effective from 2-point range, but the Golden Bears made 14 more free throws.

• Cal won the rebounding battle 33-25.
