LAS VEGAS — The Utah State Aggies used a strong second half to turn a tie game at intermission into a 90-64 victory over the San Jose State Spartans in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Wednesday.


• The Aggies shot nearly 56 percent from the field compared to just over 35 percent for the Spartans.

• Utah State finished with 22 assists, while San Jose State had 11.

• The Aggies went on multiple runs in the second half, the biggest being an 18-0 stretch midway through the stanza to put things out of reach.

Records: Utah State (14-16); San Jose State (14-16)


Utah State: Mountain West Freshman of the Year Koby McEwen finished with 27 points, 22 of which came in the second half.

San Jose State: Ryan Welage led the Spartans with 14 points.

Up next: The Aggies will face the tournament's top seed, Nevada, on Thursday at 1 p.m. MST. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
