Never in the 89-year history of the BYU-Utah series had a team won by as much as the fifth-ranked Utes did in an 85-49 shellacking at the Huntsman Center.

Keith Van Horn led Utah with 22 points — 19 in the first half — in his final game against the Cougars. Another future pro, Michael Doleac, finished with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Utahs previous largest margin of victory over BYU came in 1957 in an 88-66 win. The Cougars had beaten the Utes by 31 twice.
