The coaching carousel in the NFL and college football revolved around some names with local ties.

Former Utah head football coach Jim Fassel became the head man for the New York Giants. He guided the Giants to Super Bowl XXXV, a 34-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

George Seifert, who played for the Utes and coached at Westminster College for a year, stepped down as the coach of the San Francisco 49ers, where he had won two Super Bowls.

Tom Holmoe became the head coach at Cal for five seasons with a 12-39 record. The former BYU player would later become the Cougars athletic director.
