(And for tips on making new habits, read up on this article on LifeHack.)

Eat more fruit

This year, consider getting your sugar rush naturally! Eliminating added sugars and sweeteners, commonly found in processed foods, can retrain your taste buds and help you cherish a refreshing, fruity treat.

To get started: There's nothing like switching out an ice cream cone for a healthful acai bowl. Look up recipes for smoothies and bowls that you can incorporate into your daily life. The best part? These are sweets you can justify having for breakfast!

Hold yourself to a nutrition plan that works

A new year, a new diet. But, come February or March, you find yourself back to your old eating habit and gaining another pound or two (it's definitely muscle mass, right?). This year, instead of fad diets, try an eating plan that is balanced to meet your daily energy and nutrition needs.

To get started: Check out Nutrition Factors and their introduction to their Grid Diet.

Spend more time with family

It's becoming harder and harder, in a world of personal smartphones, to unglue our eyes from screens and interact with one another. Take it back to the time before technology and sit down with your family members for a classic game night.

To get started: If you don't have games at home or are tired of the ones you always play, take your family to the nearest game shop that allows free play of a plethora of games.

Grow a green thumb

This is it. This is the year you're going to have a beautiful garden. The problem is, it's cold out and there's no way anything will survive the chill. Good news: there's plenty of gardening supplies that can help you grow from the comfort of your living room.

To get started: From aquaponics to aerogardens, indoor gardening has never been easier. Find the nearest gardenling supply store and start simple.
