Utahs Chris Fuamatu-Maafala fumbled on the first play of the game but he overcame the error to ramble for 169 yards as the Utes routed Fresno State 45-17.

Utah spotted the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead, but scored on four of their next five possessions to take a 24-14 lead.

Juan Johnson tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns and Mike Fouts threw a pair of TD passes as the Utes piled up 489 yards of offense.

The defense came alive as well, forcing six turnovers.
