Karl Malone had 14 points in the first quarter but the Utah Jazz couldnt shake off a slow start in a 103-99 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the teams first four-game losing streak in two years.

Malone ended up with 33 points to pass Elgin Baylor for 12th on the all-time NBA scoring list. He wound up passing ex-Jazzman Adrian Dantley for 11th place with 35 points in a win in the next game against Sacramento to snap the losing skid.

During the skid, the Jazz lost twice to the Seattle SuperSonics, who would beat them in the Western Conference Finals.
