ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Miss America pageant is back in Atlantic City again, in a big way.

The Miss America Organization announced Tuesday that Vanessa Williams will return as head judge, three decades after resigning the title amid a nude photo scandal.

Preliminary competition in talent, interviews, evening wear and swimsuit competition was to begin Tuesday evening and run through Thursday.

Also on Tuesday, the shoes that each of the 52 contestants will wear during Saturday's "Show Us Your Shoes" parade were unveiled, featuring butterflies, potatoes, dice and dinosaurs among state-specific designs.

Contestants from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are vying for the crown, which will be awarded during Sunday night's nationally televised finale.

The 95th Miss America pageant will be broadcast from Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
