SALT LAKE CITY — This weekend some of the state's best young amateur boxers will square off in the State Golden Gloves Tournament.

The competition's first round beings Friday at 7 p.m. at the Sorenson Center in Salt Lake City. Those boxers who win will advance to Saturday's finals, which also begin at 7 p.m., with a berth into April's Regional Golden Gloves Tournament on the line.

The regional tournament is scheduled for April 24-25 and features boxers from the Rocky Mountain region, which encompasses Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Utah. Winners of the regional tournament earn a berth into the Golden Gloves National Tournament in May.
