This week workers completed building scaffolding for a long-term repair project to fix cracks, leaks and corrosion in the cast-iron structure of the Dome.

The Architect of the Capitol website says "The Dome has not undergone a complete restoration since 1959-1960 and due to age and weather is now plagued by more than 1,000 cracks and deficiencies."

The $60 million project was passed in 2013 and the exterior of the dome is expected to be complete in Winter 2015.
