KYLE GEARIG, Bingham, football: The top-ranked Bingham football team is loaded with outstanding players. At the top of that list of team leaders is quarterback Kyle Gearig.
The two year starter had three passing touchdowns, as well as a rushing touchdown, against the eighth-ranked Jordan Beetdiggers.
"Kyle is a very competitive player that is always in control in every aspect of his game," said Bingham head coach Dave Peck. "Whenever we need a big play, he just seems to always make it."
Gearig is one of the team's hardest workers, and he's just as dedicated off the field while maintaining a 3.84 GPA. He has 16 passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns this season for the defending 5A state champions.
LAKEN FLINDERS, American Fork, soccer: As a four-year starter, Laken Flinders has lead the team in scoring for the last two years. While she plays midfield for her club team, she easily transitioned to forward when her high school team needed her help there.
"She's the best leader up top, very fast, even though she's small," said head coach Margie Stringam. "She's just fun to watch."
She scored a hat trick against Pleasant Grove and has 13 goals and two assists this season.
"Her knowledge of the game and her runs," Stringam said of her greatest strength on the field. "She's very smart, plays the ball well, and she just knows how to be in the right spot at the right time. She has excellent foot skills and speed to get around defenders."
The honor student (3.9 GPA) has committed to play soccer for Utah Valley University.
