RENO, Nevada — A day off couldn't help the Salt Lake Bees, as they fell 5-2 to Reno in their series opener Thursday. The Bees have now lost 11 straight.

Salt Lake led early, 1-0 and 2-1, scoring off an error in the second inning and retaking a one-run lead in the fourth when Drew Heid tripled to score Luis Martinez.

But Reno notched a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead, then added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth — off a pair of singles — to wrap up the home win.

Bees starter Justin Thomas earned the loss, after giving a go-ahead run to start the bottom of the sixth. Despite striking out five, he is now 1-5 on the season for Salt Lake (13-28).

Third baseman Andy Marte went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to lead the Aces (19-22).

Reno and Salt Lake will meet again Friday at 7:35 p.m. MT.
