SALT LAKE CITY — Utah's new online insurance marketplace for individuals is scheduled to open Tuesday as part of the federal health care overhaul.

The marketplace, which Utah has opted to let the federal government run, is supposed to allow people a place to compare insurance plans and sign up for coverage.

Under the health care overhaul, most Americans will be required to have health insurance next year.

The online marketplaces, a hallmark of the health law, offer insurance plans for those who aren't covered by an employer or a government program such as Medicaid.

Utah health advocates say it's hard to predict how many people will sign up using the exchange, but it's likely people will begin comparison shopping on day one.

The online marketplace can be found at www.healthcare.gov.
