Salt Lake Community College softball coach Mary Kay Amicone led the Bruins to No. 1 ranking and NJCAA tournament.

OGDEN — Weber State University Athletics announced the hiring of SLCC's Mary Kay Amicone as head softball coach on Monday.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to coach at Weber State," Amicone said. "There are so many great things in place here and I really appreciate this opportunity to continue my coaching career here at Weber State where I began my playing career. I'm looking forward to this exciting new chapter in my life."

In nine seasons as head coach at SLCC, Amicone turned in an overall record of 433-99-2 with a 330-57 win-loss record in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. She led the Bruins to three consecutive National Junior College Athletic Association second-place finishes from 2011-2013 and five consecutive finishes ranked inside the top five in the final NJCAA polls.

She is married to Marc Amicone, the general manager of the Salt Lake Bees.

Coach Amicone played two years of collegiate softball at WSU as an outfielder before the program was dropped and she later moved on to the University of Utah.

She will have a pair of familiar faces on the pitching staff at Weber State this coming season, with former Bruin Kylee Colvin (Farr West) already on the WSU roster and current Bruin sophomore standout MaCauley Flint (Roy) having signed on with the Wildcats earlier this year.

Amicone began her coaching career at the University of Utah where she was an assistant for seven seasons. She was head softball coach at BYU for three years and was the first varsity softball coach in school history. Amicone led BYU to the 2001 Mountain West Conference Championship and was named Mountain West Conference Coach-of-the-Year that season.
