JAKOB HUNT, Bountiful, football: The senior running back picked the perfect week to have a career game.
Hunt had a monster game in the first round of the 4A high school football playoffs last week as he rushed for 291 yards and four touchdowns on 35 carries to lead Bountiful to the easy 35-6 victory over Skyline.
The 291 yards were a career high, while his four TDs matched a career-high he set against Cyprus and Mountain View earlier this year.
Through 11 games this season, Hunt has rushed for 1,477 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Hunt heads into this week's 4A quarterfinals against Mountain Crest needing 183 rushing yards to surpass 3,000 career yards.
DEVIN DALTON, Monticello, volleyball: For the last two years the Buckaroo volleyball team has been led by senior setter Devin Dalton.Comment on this story
"She's put in more hours than anybody else on the team," said Monticello head coach Tony Esplin. "Any time we leave anything up to the seniors, they'd always look to her for leadership. She was always willing to step up."
Her skill and leadership helped Monticello win back-to-back 1A state volleyball titles, a feat that was made more difficult by the graduation of five seniors. She works just as hard off the court, and was named to the Academic All-State team on Saturday, as well.
"She can be excited," said Esplin. "But she's calm most of the time. It seems like nothing rattles her. She's always in control. Not too much gets under her skin."
