Barbara Carling10/29/1958 ~ 3/3/2012Our beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend completed her earthly mission and returned home on March 3, 2012 in Salt Lake City, UT after a valiant 3 year battle with abdominal sarcoma. Barbara was born on October 29, 1958 in Walnut Creek, CA, the youngest of 6 children born to Gerald Bastian and Persis Spencer Carling. She spent her childhood in Livermore and San Jose, CA and then as a teenager moved to Fillmore, UT. Barbara graduated with honors from Millard High School in 1976 and was proud to have helped create the 1976 yearbook which is now a part of Utah's Bicentennial Archives. She graduated from Dixie College (1978) and Southern Utah State College (1980) with a B.A. in Family Life and Child Development. After college she moved to Salt Lake City where she taught pre-school for six years and then was employed by The Lion House from 1988 to 2011 where she was the Supervisor of Banquet/Reception Set-up and Housekeeping and made many forever friendships. An active member of the LDS Church, she enjoyed historical vacations in the U.S. and Great Britain, learning of her pioneer heritage and visiting sites from LDS history. Her greatest love was serving in the Primary and teaching the gospel. Although she never had children of her own, she "mothered" in many other ways, touching the hearts of numerous children. She was especially blessed to have Christine and Brian Handrahan as part of her life. She expressed her thankfulness for the love and support of her family and friends for their faith and prayers, especially those of the Holladay 4th Ward Primary. Survived by sister, Geraldine (Charles) Rhoades of Newark, CA; Duane (Suzanne) Carling of Farmington, UT; Ron (Karen) Carling of Sandy, UT; Randy (Christine) Carling of Galt, CA; Bruce (Cheryl) Carling of Houston, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, one niece and one nephew. A special thanks to Highland Cove Assisted Living and CareSource Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Holladay South Stake Center, 4917 Viewmont St. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment, Fillmore City Cemetery.
