Ralph Que Coray"A Utah Man am I"1926 ~ 2012Ralph Que Coray died February, 23, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 85. He was a devoted husband and father. Que was born on March 24, 1926 in Ogden, UT to Lillian Amelia Flygare and Claude Laville Coray. He lived most of his childhood in Utah but spent a few long winters playing ping pong with his sister and six brothers in Fairbanks, AK. He served in the Army of the United States during World War II as a Staff Sergeant at Fort Sill. After the war, he returned to the University of Utah where he met his bride, Marion Gayle Martin. They were married on June 4, 1948. Que changed his major from philosophy to education to expedite graduating and employment opportunities but always enjoyed a good debate and spirited conversation the remainder of his life. He taught 6th grade at Libbie Edward Elementary but spent most of his working life as an accountant and banker. He was a Vice President in the Trust Department at Walker Bank and an Employee Benefits Director at Skaggs Drug Stores (American Stores). In retirement, he worked with son John, owner of Western Concrete Sawing & Drilling.Que and Gayle created a loving, fun home for our family. We played "Kick the Can", "Simon Says", cards and board games. Que loved all sports, camping and fishing. He was active in The Western Boys Baseball Assoc. and coached all of his sons. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis with Gayle and their friends at the Cottonwood Club. Que's grandchildren made family gatherings even more fun especially at the Christmas piƱata and white elephant parties. Later, as his health declined, he became active at the Mt. Olympus Senior Center where Que played chess and participated in discussions groups. Sadly, Gayle was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2002. Que dedicated himself to her care until the very day he died. Que is survived by his wife, Gayle; his children: Marion Johnson (Greg), Rual (Anne), John Que and Bryan (Camellia); his grandchildren: Nathan, Rory, Matthew, Benjamin Que, Timothy, Jennifer, Amber, Chad Que, Clay, Reuben, Miriam, Christopher, Joshua and Abigail and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: J. Edward (Barbara), Claude and sister-in-law, Jo Coray. Que is predeceased by his daughter, Claudia Tayborn (Matt), and siblings Howard, Margaret Thrasher (Leonard), Reed and Alan. Many loving hands helped Que during his later years: Dr. Ronald Gephardt and the staff at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, the staff at the Wellington and Sunrise of Sandy Care Centers and his dear nurses Dani, Lori, Rebecca and the staff at Haven Home Health. He was given outstanding care in his last days by the staff and volunteers at the VA Nursing Home. Thank you.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February, 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Ut. There will be a visitation Tuesday, February 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Interment Mt Olivet Cemetery.
