The Atlas Corp., which operates two gold-bearing properties in western Utah, had a net loss of more than $1 million or 35 cents per share in the quarter ending March 31, according to a report from Richard R. Weaver, president and chief executive officer.

He said the loss was attributable to expenses incurred in the Blasius Industries consent solicitation, which sought control of Atlas' board of directors. Weaver said the Blasius expenses will continue into the fourth quarter because of the litigation.

In third quarter of the fiscal year 12 months ago, the company had a net income of $1.5 million or 53 cents per share.
