Police were still looking for clues Wednesday in the shooting death of a homeless man.

Douglas Lee, 36, was shot once with a large-caliber gun sometime Monday night, said Salt Lake police homicide squad Sgt. Don Bell, who asked that the location of the wound on the body not be mentioned in news stories.Lee, originally of Fort Duchesne, Uintah County, had been living on Salt Lake streets about two years, Bell said. "This guy was known to some of the shelters - they knew who he was."

Police are trying to locate people who knew what Lee was doing Monday night.

A transient found Lee's body about 9 a.m. Tuesday near a railroad car in the area of 450 S. 650 West.

Bell said robbery is still probably the strongest motive in the shooting. "There were some things around him that should have been in his pockets," the sergeant said.
