Nearly $5,000 was stolen from a mid-town blood-donation center June 12 when an employee left some cash unattended while working in a storage room, a Salt Lake police report said.

An employee was doing some bookkeeping about 8:55 p.m. and counted $4,949 in loose bills. After finishing the book work, the employee, expecting the arrival of a relative, unlocked a door and went to work in the storage room, the report said.After returning from the room, the money had been removed from a bank bag and more cash was stolen from the employee's purse. No other items at the center, 609 S. State, were disturbed, the report said.
