The old 25th Ward LDS chapel, 428 S. Ninth West, and nearly three-quarters of an acre of land on which it is situated have been donated to the Salt Lake City Division of the Salvation Army.
A ceremony marking the event will be held at 3 p.m. June 19 in the chapel. The service, which will include music by the Salvation Army Brass Band, is open to the public.President Thomas S. Monson, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will present a deed for the property to Maj. Bill Lane, division director, and other Salvation Army officials.
Officials said the building, constructed in 1902 and extensively remodeled in 1947, was donated in recognition of the Army's 100 years of service in Utah with the understanding that it will continue to be used as a house of worship.
A 7 p.m. concert June 18 on the church steps will feature the band and soloist.
