Guerrillas loyal to PLO chief Yasser Arafat fought Syrian-backed mutineers with mortars and rocket-propelled grenades in two refugee camps, killing seven people and wounding 16, police said Thursday.

The overnight battle brought the toll to 26 killed and 117 wounded since fighting for control of Chatilla and Bourj el-Barajneh broke out last week.

The fighting pitted guerrillas of the Palestine Liberation Organization's mainstream Fatah faction and adversaries of the Fatah-Uprising, a group that rebelled against Arafat's leadership in May 1983.
