About 8,000 people escorted the body of Ferdinand Marcos' mother, dead more than 40 days, to the outskirts of Manila Wednesday in a show of support for the exiled former president.

It was the kickoff for a two-day motorcade to Marcos' home province of Ilocos Norte, where Josefa Edralin-Marcos is to be buried at an undetermined date.Thousands of onlookers lined an eight-mile route as the Marcos loyalists marched from Edralin-Marcos' suburban home to a highway on the border of the capital. Many of the onlookers cheered the marchers on, some heckled them, but most just watched silently.
