Alpine School District officials have named a new director of food services, who will be responsible for making sure 24,000 students in 44 schools are served hot lunches every weekday.

Ilene Carter will take the job this fall. She has worked in the district since 1978, when she started as a food service cook at Pleasant Grove High School. She became school lunch manager at Pleasant Grove Junior High in 1980, where she remained for six years.Carter has been food service coordinator for the past two years at the district's central office, where she has supervised food service managers and workers at 22 Alpine schools. She has trained new managers, planned menus and maintained the food budget.

She is a member of the Utah School Food Service Association and has been a local president of the organization. She is certified with the American School Food Service Association and has studied nutrition and food service management at Utah State University.
