Wednesday, Denise Parker, a 14-year-old junior high school student from South Jordan, became an Olympian. After the morning's competition at the Olympic Trials for archery in Oxford, Ohio, Parker was so far ahead that she could have missed the target on all her afternoon attempts and still finished in the top three. The top three qualifiers for both men and women make the Olympic team. The youngest participant also became the first American female to score more than 330 points (ut of a possible 360) as she totaled 331. Also quietly staying in contention for an Olympic berth for men is Stansbury Park's Ed Eliason, a two-time Olympian. Eliason had the best score for men Tuesday afternoon, 326, to move into a tie for third. Details are on D1.
