Construction has begun on the final section of I-215 in Salt Lake County. The work, however, requires the closure of the Big Cottonwood Canyon Road (2nd South) from Holladay Boulevard to 30th East.
Motorists will need to detour to 70th South by using 30th East or 23rd East. Work on the five-mile section from 20th East to 39th South is scheduled for completion by fall of 1990.
Structures will be built to carry I-215 over Big Cottonwood Creek and Holladay Boulevard and a freeway interchange constructed at Knudsen's Corner in Holladay. Work will begin this fall on a new connector road from the Knudsen's Corner interchange to the Big Cottonwood Canyon area.
Because the project runs through residential areas, county noise ordinances will limit the hours of some construction activities to between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. Modifications will be made on some streets surrounding the project area, including the installation of temporary traffic signals.
