Fire investigators suspect arson in a fire that roared through the top floor of a three-story beachfront motel, killing two women and injuring 14 other people in a resort town bustling with high school graduates.

Fire investigators in Ocean City, a popular warm-weather resort community, termed the blaze early Sunday at the Beachcomber Motel as suspicious.

Killed in the fire were Crystal Lee Tate, 19, and Beverly Jean Bortz, 19, both of York, Pa., said police spokesman Jay Hancock.

Four people fled the flames by jumping from a third-floor window into a trash dumpster that had been pushed into position by police officers, Hancock said.
