British Sports Minister Colin Moynihan denounced soccer fans who rampaged through the West German city of Stuttgart on Sunday as a cancer on the back of English football and urged tight police controls to stop them.
More than 30 people, most of them British, were arrested by West German police in a second successive night of fighting and vandalism after England's 1-0 European championship defeat against Ireland. About 50 were held on Saturday night.
"This is an appalling start. There have been some very serious incidents, a cancer on the back of English football," he said.
