President Corazon Aquino of the Philippines, making only the second trip outside her country since a coup attempt last August, arrived Friday on a six-day visit to Switzerland and Italy.

Aquino landed at Cointrin Airport at 5:15 p.m. to seek aid for her heavily indebted nation and to speed up the recovery of $1 billion in embezzled funds former president Ferdinand Marcos has stashed in Swiss banks.

Her quest for economic assistance was to be bolstered by assurances on union rights and land reform in a speech Tuesday to the annual meeting of the United Nations International Labor Organization (LO).

Aquino said on leaving Manila that the Philippines would be in "good hands" during her absence, despite a dramatic weekend commando raid on National Police headquarters and the threat of more such actions.
