Katherine Tanner, Murray, is the winner of the Miss Salt Lake Valley Scholarship Pageant.

A daughter of David G. and Kristine Tanner, the Murray High School senior was selected from among 11 contestants in competition at Evergreen Junior High School, Granite District.She also won the talent and interview divisions and is eligible to compete in the Miss Utah Pageant.

Katherine, 17, plans to enter the University of Utah, where she will major in pre-medicine with a minor in music. At Murray High she has been activities chairwoman, student conductor of the A Cappella Choir and Madrigals and a member of the Handbell Choir. She is an accomplished pianist, has maintained a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average for six years, is a member of the Honor Society and, as a member of the Academic Decathalon Team, received a gold medal in state competition.

For her talent number in the pageant Tanner sang and accompanied herself on the piano in her own arrangement of "Looking Through the Eyes of Love."

Other pageant winners were Jana Huff, first runner-up;Nancy Knapp, second runner-up and photogenic award; Angela Ayers, third runner-up; and Dawn Webber, fourth runner-up and swimsuit competition; and Nilsa Feliciano, evening gown competition.
