A bronze and leaded glass lamp designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was auctioned Saturday for more than $700,000, breaking sales rec-ords for 20th century American furniture and decorative art.

The dramatic lamp was created by the famous architect-designer about 1908 for his Robie house, built five years earlier in Chicago, a spokeswoman for Christie's auction house said.

The lamp, which sold for $704,000, consists of a tent of leaded glass that forms a shade atop double green, brown and white pedastals, which are edged with leaded bronze.

The sale to a local dealer exceeded earlier projections by about $200,000.
